Dance Company Lock-in

Every December the dance studio holds a lock-in for the company dancers. The girls look forward to it every year. This year the lock-in was held on December 12th. The dancers start arriving at 6 pm and the doors are locked at 7:00.
The girls have pizza for dinner (and lots of other food), make crafts, and play games. They had a bounce house with huge balls you jump accross(like Wipeout). They had so much fun on it.

They hold a White Elephant. Each girl brings a gift. Caeli got a blanket and gift card and Kianna was thrilled to get a Starbucks mug.

The get very little sleep and have fun. At 8 am the owners wake them up with an air raid siren, feed them breakfast and send home very tired kids.

Benchmark goes to BizTown!

JA BizTown is a learning experience that teaches 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students economic concepts, workplace skills, and personal and business finances is a business town built just for them.  The teacher led curriculum enhances student understanding of work ethics, economics, leadership, and team work. It combines classroom learning and real world application. For the last few weeks the kids have had lessons preparing them to attend JA BizTown. They explored career options, created business plans, calculated business operations, and designed a business campaign. On December 2nd, the 5th and 6th grade classes boarded buses and went to Tempe. They spent the day at BizTown. Each student was assigned a different job. (Kianna was the lawyer), They took part in a town simulation where all the children worked at their job, They bought and sold goods, opened a bank account and managed their finances,  practiced responsible citizenship by voting and paying taxes, and implemented a marketing campaign for their business. The goal is for each student to pay off their business loan. I was lucky enough to help on this field trip and we both had a great time.

Thanksgiving 2015

November has been very cold in Arizona. The nights have been in the 30's and 40's. We have enjoyed our fireplace
The dogs have quickly learned to lay by the fireplace.
The girls love to cook and helped cook our feast. Caeli even asked to try carving.
My friend Kiki joined us for dinner.
