BITTY BABY... American Girl Dolls make a baby doll that comes in an Asian version. Mariah and Caeli had Bitty Babies when they were younger and they ordered one for Kianna before she joined our family. Kianna loves to play with her doll. She loves to push her in her stroller, change her clothes and feed her.

UPDATE... Kianna went back to the doctor yesterday. He seemed pleased with her progress. She is a happy little girl and takes everything in stride. After the doctor she and Caeline talked me into a trip to McDonalds. They played on the slides and the best part for Kianna was the huge ice cream cone!

FEELING BETTER... Kianna is definitely feeling better. She is happy to be home. She will stay at home for a few weeks to recover. The girls have Spring Break this week and Aunt Jodi is watching them.

HOME... We got to come home today! It was a long day. We had a Colostomy nurse come in and explain the care Kianna would need. Then we had to wait for her doctor to come in and check her incision. Then we waited hours for supplies to arrive, finally we got to go home. Kianna was so happy to see her sisters and get to sleep in her own bed.

SUNDAY... Kianna is a little fussy today. She does not want to stay in her room and we have spent part of today wandering around the hospital. Aunt Pam picked Caeli up and brought her over to visit. She is not allowed in the Pediatrics area, so we all went to the cafeteria and had lunch. The girls got to play in a patio area and had so much fun together. We can't wait to go home!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY... Kianna is feeling so much better today. She is all running all over and it is hard to keep her quiet. She doesn't seem to be having any problems adjusting to wearing a colostomy bag. She lifts her nightgown and shows it off. She didn't need any pain medicine today and was in great spirits.

A group brought in Build-A-Bear stuffed animals to make and she chose a tan bear. She loved making the bear and kissed the star they placed inside. She colored a shirt for him to wear and carried him all over.

KIANNA... After the play we headed to Mesa and checked into the Banner Desert Hospital. Her incision was opening and the rectum would not heal. The doctor determined that the only way to let the area heal was to perform a colostomy. Kianna had her third surgery in sixteen days. She was in surgery for about an hour and then admitted into the hospital. She is in a lot of pain, but is expected to be able to have the diversion reversed in about three months. We are praying that this will be the end of her problems.

G'DAY AUSTRALIA... The day started with Caeline's Kindergarten play. It was originally scheduled for later in the day, but there was a forecast of high temperatures ( the high for today was 99 degrees!) and the play was moved to 8:30 in the morning. I was happy that they moved the time to the morning as we were able to attend.

Kindergarten is finishing a unit on Australia and the play covered all that they have learned during the last few weeks. They covered all the animals native to Australia (Caeline was a Koala Bear). They sang seven songs about Australia including Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree, and Waltzing Matilda. There were 64 children in the show and they all did an amazing job. I was so proud of Caeli.

THURSDAY... Last night Kianna's incision started to open. She was in a lot of pain and the doctor decided this afternoon to operated tomorrow afternoon. The surgery will be done at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa. She will be in the hospital for a few days and hopefully this will give her rectum the rest it needs in order to heal.

DR. VISIT... Kianna went back to the Doctor today and he was very pleased with her progress. We are going to wait a week and re-check her next Wednesday. Then they will take out the stitches. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the healing process continues.

MONDAY... Kianna had a very hard weekend, but is feeling a little better now. We just have to wait and see if the stitches hold. We are hoping that she will not need any further treatment. We go to the Doctor on Wednesday and the stitches are removed on the 21st.

SURGERY OVER... Kianna entered the hospital at 6:00 am. It was suppose to be a quick surgery to close the opening. Kianna was in a lot of pain last night and the doctor discovered that her body wasn't tolerating the plug that had been inserted. This mornings surgery took over an hour and they removed the plug and "tried" to sew the area closed. She was released and is home now. She will have to have stitches removed (in the operating room again) in 10 days. We are praying that this works, if it doesn't it will require a more radical surgery.

UPDATE... Kianna has had a very rough week. She is still in a lot of pain. We went back to the doctor yesterday and her incision in not healing like it is suppose to. The fistula is not closing , in fact it is larger. We are scheduled to go back Saturday morning for more surgery. I am hoping that it can be done as out-patient surgery and we will be able to go home Saturday afternoon.

HOME... We were both happy when the doctor came in this morning and said that Kianna could be released from the hospital. She was so happy to get home. (Mommy too!) Kianna has been such a good baby. She does what she is told and the only time she was fussy, was when she was in pain. She took a nap and then went to Mesa to see her sisters compete in the Cathy Roe Ultimate Dance Competition. The girls loved it, they both love to dance on stage. We left before awards were given out so Kianna could get home and go to sleep in her own bed.
FRIDAY... Kianna was very active today. she played with the toys in the playroom and didn't want to stop to take a nap. Mariah and Caeli had a rehearsal for a dance completion on Saturday. After they came to the hospital and we all had dinner in the cafeteria.

THURSDAY... Kianna is doing much better. she still has a lot of pain and is on IV antibiotics. Her right arm started to swell and they had to transfer the IV to her left arm. She is such a good sport.

Mariah and Caeli are not able to enter the pediatrics unit, Maricopa county will not let any children under 12 into the area because of flu and RSV. Aunt Pam picked the girls up after school and brought them over to the hospital. Kianna went out into the hall and was so excited to see her sisters. They walked down to the cafeteria and played a while. It was hard for Caeli to leave. We hope to come home Saturday!
